Wear a piece of culture with a natural glow and stand out from the crowd. So strong yet amazingly lightweight.

This unique piece of jewellery was produced by the Saraguro community located in the Ecuadorian Andes. Each part of it is carefully and skillfully crafted by a master artisan. People from all over the world travel to Saraguro in order to learn and be inspired by this magnificent bead-art. It is important to mention, that most of the artisans economically support their families thanks to the beadwork. They keep on promoting new and authentic patterns and models constantly.

The people from Saraguro are very proud of their Inca ancestry; however, their bead art doesn't come from that heritage. About a century ago, Saraguros (local people from Saraguro) crossed the Andes into the eastern slopes of Ecuador in order to find a new food for their cattle. The small towns located around that region belonged to indigenous groups who wore necklaces made of glass seed beads. These beads were made in the Czech Republic which they acquired through trade up the Amazon River. They exchanged beads for cheese with the Saraguros. But how the Saraguros learned to weave these beads with techniques unknown to other indigenous peoples of South America are still a mystery.

All our products are designed and created by our fabulous artisans in Ecuador and will be beautifully presented in our plastic-free recycled packaging.

As a company that works together with local communities in Ecuador, we want to support them by promoting their products globally, sharing their art and unique skills. In the future, we want to build a large community of local entrepreneurs and expand our business overseas, sharing the Ecuadorian heritage through fair trade practices.

At Coco Cumbi we really value our customers and like to reward loyalty with perks to delight you not only after your first purchase but time and time again!

Promoting the Ecuadorian culture around the world

Our alpaca blankets are so warm and soft. They make stunning Christmas gifts or presents for any occasion.

They’re beautiful and versatile - use your alpaca blanket as a sofa throw or bedspread to make your home interiors stand out with its stunning colour combination.

You can also get cosy under our soft alpaca blanket wrapped around you while you’re reading a book, watching your favourite tv show or enjoying the great outdoors by the campfire.

  • Soft - Alpaca wool is softer than any other alternative wool.
  • Light - because of the hollow space in alpaca fibres, our alpaca wool blankets are light, so you'll feel comfortable tucked under one while watching your favourite movie.
  • Warm - our alpaca blankets are perfect for the colder seasons or those chilly summer camping nights. You'll be guaranteed warmth as these are designed for people who live at heights of 2,530 meters above sea level.
  • Hypoallergenic - because it doesn't contain lanolin, alpaca wool can be classified as a hypoallergenic material and is ideal for people with skin sensitivities.
  • Wicking - it allows moisture to evaporate quickly, so you stay dry and warm, especially if you enjoy being outdoors.
  • Unique - Coco Cumbi's blankets are handmade by talented textile markers from Ecuador's Andes Highlands. We use natural sources, such as cochineal, achiote, and tocte, unique flora from the Andes, to give the Alpaca wool different shades of colour.
  • Versatile - our blankets can also be used as a bedspread or sofa throw, which makes them a perfect home decor accessory. Because they’re reversible, you can
  • Durable - our alpaca blankets are of the highest quality, resistant to solar radiation and made using the same methods for hundreds of years. Three times stronger and seven times warmer than sheep's wool.

The gentlest method to clean your Alpaca blanket or throw is by hand-washing. This will add many years of life to your alpaca wool blanket.

In order to extend the life of your alpaca product, here are some care instructions:

  • Kindly wash in warm water with mild soap and carefully rinse in the water of the same temperature.
  • Alpaca wool is very delicate, especially when it is wet - be careful as it can stretch out of shape. Never twist it! Instead, softly press all the water excess from the material.
  • When your Alpaca blanket has been washed, lay it on a dry towel and roll up the item with the towel. Gently press to remove the excess of water and repeat this again with a second dry towel.
  • Lay down the blanket on a fresh and dry towel. It is recommendable to do this on a flat surface.
  • Once your alpaca blanket is dry, fold it gently. Never hand-dry your alpaca blanket as it may stretch and damage the shape.
